An honest review of “The Secret”

Hi all and welcome back. Today’s post is slightly different to the usual post on Tm-Dancer but I feel like it is a worthwhile topic to talk about so I decided to write a post about it. I might be a bit late to the bandwagon on reading this book but I’m so glad that I read it.

So if anybody doesn’t know what I’m talking about it is a book called “The Secret” written by Rhonda Byrne. It is based on a book that has been around for over 100 years and is about a belief that has been around for thousands of years.

It is all about the law of attraction and how the law of attraction is as relevant and as influential as the law of gravity. The same way as you know that you are not going to float up to space because you know the law of gravity is going to keep your feet firmly on the ground, the law of attraction will help you to attract everything you want in your life to you.

Once I started to read this book I was hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and after the first night of reading I began to implement the suggestions from the book into my life the very next morning. I woke up and began to recite in my head everything I want in my life. My affirmations which I say daily now focus on my health, happiness, relationships, work, money and travel.

After my second night of reading the book I woke up to implement the new suggestions I had gotten from the book. This time as I walked to work I recited in my mind everything that I am grateful for and then I thought about all that I want in my life.

After the third night reading I had finished the book and was excited to buy the second book in the series, “The Power”. That’s what I am currently reading but that’s for another post.

The Secret is a very positive, enjoyable read and it makes you feel very good about yourself. It made me believe that I can do whatever I want to do. I have begun to be more confident in myself and believe that I can have and do whatever I put my mind to.

While the book doesn’t focus on hard work, I do still believe that in order to succeed fully, hard work is necessary and is good for somebody to work hard. The harder you work for something, the more you appreciate it when you finally get it.

This is the attitude I have decided to take in relation to my blog, my house and my work. I worked really hard on all of the above before reading this book, but now I believe that in conjunction with the hard work, the positive good vibes and thoughts I put out into the world will bring god things to my life.

In essence, the book is a long winded way of saying that “What goes around comes around”. If you give out bad, negative vibes, if you have negative thoughts, you will attract negativity to your life. If you only let your mind think good thoughts, then you will attract only good things to you.

So have I actually seen any improvements in my life even though it’s only been a week? Well, yes actually. The first morning I was saying all of my positive thoughts in my mind, I was stuck at a junction in the car waiting to get across at a busy school. I kept thinking good thoughts in my head when before I probably would have gotten really irritated about waiting. A nice man indicated for me to go across in front of him. Some of you might may well that man probably would have let you out anyway. Maybe that’s true, but I like to think that my good thoughts attracted that man to give me good vibes in return.

Probably the biggest thing for me so far is related to my husband. He has been applying for jobs for the last few weeks and hadn’t gotten very far with the job hunt. I kept thinking positively for him and I came home from work on Wednesday last to the good news that he had gotten an interview. I immediately started thinking good thoughts about the job and really visualised him working in that job. When I was telling people he had the interview I said that he is going to get the job. And would you believe on Friday afternoon he got a phone call from the company offering him the position. I am not saying that I think I got the job for him, but I thoroughly believed in him and believed that he was right for the job. And I told him so each time we talked about the job. I’m so proud of him and delighted that he can finally leave the jobs that he doesn’t really enjoy and which really are not leading anywhere.

There is one thing that the Secret suggested doing that I haven’t gotten around to and that is meditation. Meditation is something that I always enjoyed the few times I did it but it is one of my December goals to bring meditation into my daily life.

So to sum up what I have learned from The Secret.

Good positive thoughts only
Belief and confidence

I bet you can agree that anything that promotes the above four points can only be good for you. I will keep you posted as I progress with my work on The Secret.

Have any of my readers read the Secret? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments!
