On our dream honeymoon we spent 5 nights in Orlando Florida. In this post I would like to share my top 5 things to do while in Orlando Florida.
- Universal Islands of Adventure, particularly Hogwarts
Being a big rollercoaster enthusiast this has always and forever been my number 1 thing that I wanted to do while in Orlando. It definitely didn’t disappoint. My husband would not be as enthusiastic as I am about trying all of the rides but he has no choice as I dragged him along with me. He always thanked me for making him go on each ride once we got off. So our first port of call in this theme park was ‘The Hulk’, for no other reason other than it was the first one we came across which had a small queue. We also did Jurassic Park, King Kong, Spiderman, and then to my dreamland, Hogwarts.
I don’t think I can put into words the excitement and pure joy I felt as we walked into Hogwarts. A choir was singing to typical Harry Potter style music and there was a buzz around that was not felt anywhere else in the park.
Hogwarts itself is a life size model of the school. Filled on the ground floors with shops selling the most wonderful Harry Potter souvenirs I have ever seen The upstairs of the castle houses the Harry Potter simulator. Don’t be fooled into thinking you sit in a seat and watch some scenes go by. In this simulator, you are twisted and turned upside down and down to the floor as you go on an adventure through the air with Harry, Hermione and Ron. It was the highlight of my entire Orlando trip. The frozen butter beer is to die for.
2. Pirates Cove Crazy Golf
A really fun way to spend a few hours in Orlando. We went at night thinking that there would be less crowds, but it was still very busy. At some holes you were queuing for up to 15 minutes for the groups in from of you to move on. All in all it is still a really fun activity with really spectacular around each hole. Obviously the fact that I won increased my enjoyment of the game.
3. Ice Bar Orlando
I have never been to an ice bar and it has been on my bucket list for quite a while. So one evening we headed up Universal Boulevard and made a pitstop in the Ice Bar. There are a number of different packages you can buy. We got the package with access to the Ice Bar with warm jackets and gloves and two speciality cocktails each, one in the bar just inside where you don’t need warm clothes and then another in the -7degree Ice Bar.
I got a drink made with dry ice and Gary got a drink that gets lit on fire. A great contrast where the process of making the drinks is as good as the drinking of them. They were delicious.
In side the -7Degree Bar there are sculptures made out of ice, a dragon, chairs, a table, a bar, a photo frame. Very Instagram worthy items.
4. The Outback Steakhouse
This was by far the best food we had had so far on our honeymoon. To start we got the ‘Bloomin’ Onion’. A massive onion deep-fried and served to share as an appetiser. A must have if dining in the Outback. I am not a big steak eater, I would rarely opt for red meat when eating, but my husband loves steak and he though the steak here was one of the best he had ever had. I got a Cobb salad which was devine.
5. Diagon Alley- Universal Studios
This is a magical area which is accessed from Leicester Square London, and could be easily missed if you were wandering aimlessly and not paying attention. Walking through the walls and then out into Diagon Alley gives you the illusion of being in the book. You are greeted with the sight of Gringotts and the Drgaon breathing fire out over Diagon Alley every 10 to 15 minutes.
